Can Water Power A Car

A number of years ago a former work colleague of mine told me a fascinating story about one of his first jobs, working for a reputable car mechanics. It was at a time when electronic ignition was first being introduced to newly manufactured cars. Those with older model cars that wanted to take advantage of this latest technological innovation could also have it fitted at their local garage. As the keen new boy he was quickly trained up to fit these new ignition boxes to the different car makes and models.

After a few weeks of fitting the little black boxes curiosity got the better of him and he just had to find out how this marvel actually worked. When there was no one else around he decided to open up one of the boxes and see how complex the inner workings actually were. What he found was a mass of multi coloured wires passing through the box wall into a sealed container, inside this container the wires were just tied into a giant knot and that’s where the technology ended. As a very conscientious person he decided right there and then that this just wasn’t the job for him, so he parted company with the garage to leave for bigger and better things.

The story made me think about all the latest adverts that are bombarding my email box about running a car on water. Has the rising fuel prices and cost of living opened up the doors for a new kind of scam just like the electronic ignition box. Even if the principle behind the technology works that doesn’t mean that it’s ready to be implemented into cars at this stage of its development or does it?

I found this very informative article which pretty much tells you everything you need to know to make your mind up about the technology, or at least form a strong opinion. Whether the technology does or doesn’t work I can’t say, but it certainly looks interesting and gives hope for the future.
