It’s more costly than any of its direct competitors so may not attract as many fleet customers, however it does have the highest residual value in its class. The Vito is likely to appeal to retail customers who are image conscious, want that little bit extra in comfort or are attracted by the Mercedes badge. Now in its second generation the Vito is more streamlined than its predecessor and comes with a full 3-year, unlimited mileage warranty with service intervals every 18,000 - 25,000 miles. The Vito comes with a choice of 4 modern economical common-rail direct injection diesel engines and one high performance petrol engine. All diesel engines are Euro 4 complaint rear wheel drive and come in a choice of 109CDi giving 95bhp, 111CDi giving 116bhp, 115CDi giving 150bhp all of which come with a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard or a 5 speed automatic option. The 120CDi which giving 204bhp comes as standard with a 5-speed automatic gearbox with Tiptronic. The high performance diesel engine available is a V6 3.7 litre ex-Mercedes Benz S-Class car engine which produces 231bhp. The Vito is offered in a choice of two wheelbases 3200mm and a 3430mm version which is used for both the long and extra long body lengths. The three vehicle lengths available are compact which is 4748mm long and has a rear overhang of 765mm, long which is 4993mm and extra long with is 5223mm. Both the long and extra long body lengths have a 1010mm rear overhang. The actual load lengths not including the space beneath the seats are 2424mm, 2667mm and 2897mm. All 3 body lengths have a maximum load width of 1650mm and 1277mm between the wheel boxes, which means the long wheel base is capable of carry 3 euro pallets. Available in two roof heights the Vito has a load capacity ranging from 4.65m³ for the compact model up to 6.49m³ for the long body length with high roof. With payloads that range from 850kg to 950kg the Vito’s carrying capacity should suit a diverse range of business needs. Access to the cargo area is via a set of hinged doors with an opening angle of 180 degrees as standard or 270 degrees if requested. The van comes with one sliding side door as standard that’s wide enough to accommodate a euro pallet. It can also be specified with 2 sliding doors for easier access. The loading area also comes with lashing eyelets and non slip wooden floor as standard and a choice of bulkheads. The Vito comes with a wealth of safety features which includes driver’s airbag, ABS, EBA, Traction control and ESP, remote central locking, electric windows, Radio/CD player and immobiliser.
